The Sekt Riesling Brut Nature from Weingut Pesau is a sparkling wine made from 100% Riesling from the organically farmed vineyards around Falkenstein, in the north-east of the Weinviertel. The wine is made using the traditional method, with a second fermentation in the bottle, and without added dosage. In the glass the Sekt shows a light yellow colour with a fine, persistent mousse. The nose is fresh and fruity, with notes of peach and apricot, citrus and a mineral touch.
On the palate the wine is bone dry and taut, yet pleasantly creamy thanks to ageing on the lees. The lively acidity of the Riesling and the minerality of the chalk soil give the wine tension and length. The finish is long, pure and refreshing. An idiosyncratic, characterful sparkler for lovers of a pure, dry style.
Excellent as an aperitif and with oysters, sashimi, smoked trout and fried snacks.
