Description:

The 2016 vintage in Haut-Médoc is considered one of the greats of the decade, and with this wine, Château de Malleret delivers an exemplary reflection of that exceptional year. As soon as the wine is poured, its deep ruby-red colour stands out — a colour that is still vibrant, with a sheen that indicates careful ageing. On the nose, the wine reveals its classic allure. Ripe aromas of blackcurrant and cherries form the core, surrounded by elegant notes of cedarwood, graphite, tobacco and a hint of bay leaf. Everything is finely interwoven, with subtle secondary aromas of leather and truffle that indicate the beginning of tertiary development. On the palate, Château de Malleret shows itself to be silky yet structured. The tannins are polished, but still give the wine grip and length. The Merlot provides a round, fleshy entry, while the Cabernet Sauvignon offers backbone and freshness. Petit Verdot adds a discreet spiciness. The fruit — cassis, plum and black cherry — is supported by notes of toast, cocoa and damp earth. What makes this wine truly special is its balance: power without heaviness, ripeness without sweetness, complexity without excess. The finish is long, pure and layered, with an echo of dark fruit, fresh acidity and fine woody notes that slowly fade — a wine not easily forgotten.

Pairing:

Perfect with rack of lamb with rosemary, roasted duck breast or mature sheep's cheese.

Winery:

Château de Malleret, located on the left bank of the Bordeaux region in the municipality of Le Pian-Médoc, has a history that dates back to the 17th century. The estate is best known for its classic red wines from Haut-Médoc, but also produces a refined white wine line under the name Balzane, named after one of the estate's racehorses — a nod to the château's historic equestrian tradition. The vineyards for the white wine are situated on cool soils and are carefully cultivated to bring out the best of the fresh expression of Sauvignon Blanc and the structure of Sémillon.
