Son D Luna 2023 is the first red wine from Bodegas Marisol Rubio: a single-varietal Tempranillo, known locally as Cencibel, from a 2.73-hectare plot in La Rizosa at 837 metres above sea level. The chalky loam soil and the large differences between day and night temperatures give freshness and finesse. In the glass the wine shows an intense cherry red with violet rims. The nose offers red fruit and spicy notes from the barrel, with smoky and chalky nuances and a hint of thyme, lavender and scrubland.
The wine matures for eight months in barriques. On the palate it is fresh and lively, with juicy red fruit, balanced acidity and an elegant, refined structure in which the oak is nicely integrated. The finish is long, with spicy and lightly smoky notes. A small-batch wine: only 1,550 bottles were made from the first harvest.
Lovely with lamb chops, grilled pork, braised partridge and Manchego.
