Description:

The Château du Courlat 2016 displays a deep ruby-red colour with a light brick-red rim, characteristic of a maturing Bordeaux. On the nose, the wine opens with expressive aromas of ripe plums, blackcurrants and violets, complemented by subtle nuances of cedarwood, leather and spices from its ageing in oak. The flavour profile is full and round, with a balanced combination of fruity intensity, soft tannins and a refined structure. The presence of vanilla, cocoa and toasted notes enhances the wine's complexity, without it losing its fresh and elegant character. The finish is long and refined, with notes of dark fruit, spices and a light minerality, which gives the wine excellent ageing potential.

Pairing:

Entrecôte with béarnaise sauce, rack of lamb with rosemary, truffle risotto, matured cheeses.

Winery:

Château du Courlat is located in the Lussac-Saint-Émilion AOC, one of the satellite appellations of Saint-Émilion. The château is owned by the Borie-Manoux family, known for their classic and terroir-driven Bordeaux wines. The vineyards cover a mix of calcareous clay soils, which is particularly suitable for Merlot, which develops its full ripeness and elegance here. The wine is vinified traditionally and ages for 12 to 15 months in French oak barrels, some of which are new, to gain extra depth and complexity.
