Description:

The “La Pièce Sous le Bois” vineyard lies at the highest point of Meursault (± 330 m), on limestone-rich marls with a south-east exposure, ensuring optimal ripening and a pronounced terroir character. The grapes are harvested by hand, gently pressed in a pneumatic press and settled at 12 °C for 24 hours. The wine then undergoes both alcoholic and malolactic fermentation in French oak barrels, followed by 14 months of ageing in barriques (30% new) with a light “blonde” toast. In the glass it gleams straw yellow with green tints. The nose seduces with notes of yellow and exotic fruit, brought forth by its liveliness, and nuances of spice and almond. On the palate it combines a creamy texture with crisp acidity, citrus freshness and a sliver of minerality — elegantly rounded off with a subtle toastiness. The finish is pure, mineral and lightly almondy.

Food pairing:

This Meursault pairs beautifully with poultry in a creamy sauce, such as chicken or turkey, and with refined fish dishes such as sea bass or scallops with butter. Soft, ripe cheeses such as Comté or Brie also harmonise with its creamy and mineral character.

Winery:

Prosper Maufoux, founded in 1860 in Santenay and run by Eric Piffaut since 2010, operates from Château de Saint‑Aubin. The estate comprises vineyards in Saint‑Aubin, the Mâconnais and Mâcon‑Igé, and follows sustainable HVE 3 practices. The wines are known for their clean, fruit-driven style, with judicious use of oak and expression of terroir, as well as for the Crémant de Bourgogne
