Monte dei Cocci Aglianico 2023 from Tenute Girolamo is a 100% Aglianico from the Valle d'Itria. The grapes grow at 450 metres above sea level, on limestone soils mixed with red earth. Aglianico is one of the great red grapes of southern Italy; here it yields a strikingly fresh and elegant wine. In the glass the wine shows a bright, radiant red colour. The nose is elegant, with spicy notes and red fruit and berries.
After gentle maceration and fermentation in steel, the wine matures for six months in French oak barrels and three months in bottle. On the palate it is light and fresh, with nicely balanced tannin that gives the wine structure without making it heavy. The red fruit and spice return on the palate. The finish is juicy and spicy.
Lovely with pasta in tomato sauce, orecchiette with sausage, lasagne or grilled pork.
