Il Sigillo 2015 is an impressive expression of the Aglianico grape, produced by Cantine del Notaio in the Aglianico del Vulture DOC of Basilicata. The grapes are harvested late, usually between late November and early December, which contributes to the concentration and complexity of the wine . After a maceration period of around 30 days and fermentation in stainless steel tanks, the wine matures in French oak barrels stored in natural tufa caves, providing a unique ageing environment . In the glass Il Sigillo 2015 shows an opaque ruby-red colour with garnet glints. The nose is intense and layered, with notes of ripe black plums, blackberries and black cherries, interwoven with nuances of chocolate, black pepper, dried violets, tobacco, cinnamon and leather . With every swirl of the glass the wine reveals new aromas, adding to its complexity. On the palate the wine offers a full and elegant experience. Flavours of plums, black cherries and blackberries dominate, supported by fresh acidity and firm yet refined tannins. The finish is long and persistent, with spicy accents of liquorice and dark chocolate . The wine’s structure and balance suggest excellent ageing potential, allowing further development in the bottle.
