The Frappato grapes are hand-picked in the warm hills around Milazzo, followed by ink-coloured fermentation at 28–29 °C with a short skin maceration of 5–6 days. After malolactic fermentation the wine matured for six months in stainless steel tanks, plus at least three months of bottle ageing. In the glass it shows a bright ruby red with purple reflections. The nose reveals a complex yet fresh scent of red fruit such as raspberry, blackberry and blackcurrant, interwoven with spicy notes of black pepper, liquorice and subtle spices. Mouth-filling and balanced, with juicy fruit, soft tannins, fresh acidity and a delicate structure; a hint of blood orange rounds it all off .
It shows beautifully with tuna carpaccio, grilled chicken or generously filled pastas with tomatoes and herbs. Soft cheese, charcuterie or mixed antipasti also enhance the spicy freshness and fruit depth of the wine.
