Pouilly-Fumé 2024 from Domaine Bonnard is a pure Sauvignon Blanc from the right bank of the Loire, made by a family estate that works mainly in neighbouring Sancerre but also owns a small parcel of Pouilly-Fumé. The grapes ferment slowly at low temperature, after which the wine matures for five to six months on its fine lees. In the glass the wine shows a pale, green-gold colour. The nose is fresh and fragrant, with peach blossom, citrus and a hint of white peach, with a lightly smoky, mineral note in the background.
On the palate the wine is dry, taut and lively. Citrus and peach return, carried by a vibrant acidity, while ageing on the lees gives a soft, round texture. The finish is fresh and clean. This Pouilly-Fumé is meant to be drunk young, within a few years, at around 12 °C.
Excellent with scallops, oysters and grilled fish, or with a classic Crottin de Chavignol and other goat's cheeses.
