The Andresen Colheita 2011 is a single-vintage tawny port that has aged for many years in wooden casks in the cellars of Vila Nova de Gaia. In the glass it shows an amber colour with golden highlights. The nose combines liquorice, dried fruit, almond and cinnamon, with a lightly spicy touch.
On the palate this Colheita sits between a young tawny and an older Colheita: it has the freshness of the former and already the structure of the latter. Red fruit gives way to dried fruit leaning towards plum, with subtle toasted notes. The sweetness is nicely balanced by a lively acidity. The finish is long and warming, with the nutty, slightly caramel-like tone so typical of port that has spent a long time in cask.
Delicious with crème brûlée, crème caramel or chocolate éclairs, and with pear with hazelnut crumble and vanilla ice cream; also lovely with mature hard cheese.
