The Château Carmes de Rieussec 2020 is the second wine of the prestigious Château Rieussec, one of the top Sauternes producers in Bordeaux. This dessert wine, made from Sémillon, Sauvignon Blanc and Muscadelle, is a brilliant example of the refinement and elegance that Sauternes offers. The wine has a deep golden-yellow colour, which indicates concentration and ripeness. On the nose, complex aromas of honey, apricots, peaches and candied citrus fruit emerge, complemented by floral notes of orange blossom and subtle hints of vanilla and almond. On the palate, the wine offers a luscious and silky texture, where the natural sweetness is beautifully balanced by lively acidity. Flavours of ripe tropical fruit, caramel and candied orange peel are complemented by a light spiciness. The finish is long, refined and elegant, with a lingering freshness that keeps the wine exciting and vibrant.
Perfect with foie gras, blue cheese, desserts with citrus or almond, and classic French patisserie.
Château Rieussec is one of the most famous wineries in Sauternes, located next to the legendary Château d’Yquem. The estate has a long history dating back to the 18th century and is known for its exceptional sweet wines, made from grapes affected by noble rot (Botrytis cinerea), which ensures their intense concentration and complexity. The vineyards of Château Rieussec cover approximately 90 hectares and are situated on the perfect mix of gravel, clay and limestone soils, ideal for creating top-quality Sauternes. The wines are carefully aged in oak to develop extra depth and complexity. The Carmes de Rieussec 2020 is the château's second wine and offers an accessible, refined and expressive interpretation of the famous Sauternes style.
