Lacoste Borie 2018 is a refined and classic Bordeaux that expresses the essence of Pauillac. As the second wine of Château Grand-Puy-Lacoste, it benefits from the same careful winemaking as the grand vin, but in a style that is more approachable in its youth. The colour is deep ruby, with purple reflections that point to its youthful freshness. On the nose, aromas of blackcurrant, ripe plum and cassis dominate, accompanied by subtle notes of cedar, tobacco and a touch of graphite. The oak influence is refined, with hints of vanilla and toasted spices. On the palate the wine shows a lovely balance between freshness and ripeness. The tannins are well integrated and give structure without being aggressive. The Cabernet Sauvignon provides power and depth, while the Merlot adds a soft, fruity dimension. The finish is long and elegant, with lingering notes of dark fruit and a mineral undertone.
Perfect with grilled red meat, lamb chops, game dishes or a classic entrecôte with béarnaise sauce.
Château Grand-Puy-Lacoste is a renowned fifth growth (cinquième cru classé) from Pauillac, an appellation known for powerful and structured wines. Situated on a high gravel plateau, the château has a terroir that is ideal for growing Cabernet Sauvignon. The Borie family, who also own Château Ducru-Beaucaillou, have raised Grand-Puy-Lacoste to a high level by investing in quality and precision. Lacoste Borie is the estate's second wine and is made from grapes from younger vines, in a style that is somewhat suppler and ready to drink sooner than the first wine, yet still radiates the typical elegance and class of Pauillac.
