Description:

The Château Bonalgue 2018 Pomerol Magnum shows a deep ruby colour with purple reflections, pointing to its youthful power and ageing potential. The aromatic palette opens with intensely ripe black fruit such as black cherries and plums, followed by floral notes of violets. As the wine opens up, nuances of cocoa, tobacco and spices such as cinnamon and clove emerge, partly thanks to ageing in oak. On the palate this Pomerol is full-bodied with a velvety structure. The Merlot brings ripe fruit and roundness, while the Cabernet Franc adds fine herbal notes and elegance. The tannins are silky and perfectly integrated, giving a creamy, opulent texture. The finish is long and complex, with subtle notes of dark chocolate and a light mineral freshness.

Food pairing:

Grilled duck breast, rack of lamb with rosemary, truffle risotto or aged hard cheeses such as Parmigiano Reggiano.

Winery:

Château Bonalgue is a prestigious estate in the famous Pomerol appellation in Bordeaux. Founded in the 18th century, the estate is known for its rich history and dedication to quality. Situated on a terroir of clay and gravel, Château Bonalgue grows mainly Merlot, complemented by a small amount of Cabernet Franc, which gives a unique expression of the region. With its 7.5 hectares of vineyards and a centuries-old tradition of craftsmanship, Château Bonalgue combines modern winemaking techniques with respect for nature and the terroir. The grapes are picked by hand and carefully selected, after which the wine is aged in small barrels to express the essence of Pomerol to the full. Over the years the estate has received numerous awards, reinforcing its reputation as one of the top Pomerol producers.
