Château Picque Caillou 2018 Pessac-Léognan Rouge is an expressive Bordeaux with a beautiful balance between fruity and mineral notes. The 2018 vintage was exceptionally favourable for the grapes, resulting in a wine with intense aromas of blackcurrant, cherry and a subtle hint of cedar and herbs. The minerality and light smoky notes give the wine its characteristic Pessac-Léognan identity. On the palate the wine has a full, silky texture, with well-integrated tannins that provide a long and refined finish. Château Picque Caillou 2018 can be enjoyed young but is also suitable for several years of ageing, during which it will gain further complexity.
Ideal with grilled beef, leg of lamb and mature cheeses.
Château Picque Caillou lies on the edge of the city of Bordeaux, in the heart of the Pessac-Léognan appellation. The estate has existed since the 18th century and benefits from pebble-rich, well-draining soils – the “cailloux” from which the château takes its name. The vineyards are planted with Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and a small amount of Petit Verdot. Led by a dedicated team, the château combines tradition with modern techniques, resulting in wines that are both powerful and refined. The 2005 is an excellent example of their style: rich, structured and with great ageing potential, as this bottle convincingly proves.
