The Bourgogne Hautes-Côtes de Beaune 2023 from Prosper Maufoux is a Pinot Noir from the higher-lying hills behind the Côte de Beaune, where the vineyards sit between roughly 280 and 550 metres. The cooler location produces fresh, elegant wines. The grapes are hand-picked, sorted and destemmed, and first undergo a cold soak; the wine then ages for around ten months in tank and oak barrels, partly new. In the glass, a beautiful, intense red colour. The nose shows cherry, red fruit, liquorice and a touch of forest floor.
On the palate the wine is elegant and medium-bodied, with fresh red fruit, subtly sweet oak and a hint of blueberries and herbs. The acidity is lively, the tannins soft and fine. The finish is refined and nicely persistent. A classic, approachable Burgundy that is already a pleasure to drink now and can age for a few more years.
Delicious with roast chicken or guinea fowl, pork tenderloin with sage, charcuterie or a soft cheese such as Brie.
