The Pol Roger Blanc de Blancs 2015 is a superb expression of the house of Pol Roger's expertise in creating Blanc de Blancs champagnes. This cuvée is produced exclusively from Chardonnay grapes, carefully selected from Grand Cru vineyards in the prestigious Côte des Blancs, including Oiry, Chouilly, Cramant, Avize, Oger and Le Mesnil-sur-Oger. In the glass the champagne presents a very pale golden yellow colour, subtly tinged with green highlights, and a steady stream of fine bubbles that bear witness to its finesse and elegance. When the bottle is opened, powerful and expressive aromas are released. The nose is dominated by fresh notes of lemon peel and pastry, which evolve into more complex scents of mocha and cocoa after some time in the glass. These are further complemented by hints of white fruit, white flowers and a subtle touch of freshly baked bread, adding to the complexity and depth of the aromatic profile. On the palate the champagne offers a harmonious balance between richness and freshness. The creamy texture is supported by lively acidity, making for an invigorating and refreshing experience. Flavours of buttery brioche, citrus fruit and a delicate minerality come to the fore, leading to a long, elegant finish with subtle notes of hazelnut and a touch of citrus. This champagne was aged for six years in the Pol Roger cellars before release, which has contributed to its complexity and finesse.
Excellent as an aperitif, but also a perfect match for seafood such as oysters and scallops, light fish dishes, poultry in creamy sauces or soft cheeses such as Brie and Camembert.
