The Banyuls Aphrodis Traditionnel is a magnificent fortified wine with a deep ruby-red colour that shows light amber reflections as it ages. On the nose, it unfolds a seductive bouquet of dried fruit such as figs and raisins, combined with notes of dark chocolate, caramel and a hint of mocha. On the palate, the wine feels full and luscious. The flavours of dried fruit are harmoniously complemented by nuances of roasted nuts, toffee and subtle spices. The natural sweetness is balanced by a refined acidity, which gives the wine a pleasant freshness. The finish is silky, long and intense, with lingering notes of caramel and chocolate.
Pair with chocolate fondant, blue cheeses or desserts based on caramel or nuts.
Cave de l’Abbé Rous is a cooperative in Banyuls-sur-Mer that unites around 750 winegrowers and together they manage about 1,150 hectares of vineyard on steep terraces along the Côte Vermeille. The name refers to Abbot François Rous who produced wine in the late 19th century to finance the construction of the church in the village. The combination of schist soils, Mediterranean sun and traditional viticultural techniques results in wines that show power, fullness and terroir expression, with a focus on Banyuls (vin doux naturel) and Collioure (red/rosé) within the region.
