Conte Giangirolamo 2021 is the flagship of Tenute Girolamo: a blend of 50% Primitivo and 50% Negroamaro from the Valle d'Itria. The vineyard lies at 450 metres above sea level in the heart of Puglia, on limestone soils mixed with red earth. In the glass the wine shows an intense ruby-red colour with violet reflections. The nose is fruity, with cherry, blackberry and blueberry, elegant herbs and a refined touch of vanilla and cocoa.
After gentle maceration and fermentation in steel, the wine matures for eighteen months in French barriques and a further six months in bottle. On the palate it is dry, full and harmonious. The rich, elegant bouquet returns on the palate, carried by well-judged tannins. The finish is long and lingering. A powerful yet refined red wine with plenty of southern Italian character.
Excellent with hearty pasta dishes with meat sauce, red meat from the grill or oven, and mature cheeses.
