The Château Grand-Puy Ducasse 2018 Pauillac shows a deep ruby colour and purple reflections, pointing to its youthful intensity and ageing potential. On the nose this wine offers a beautiful bouquet of blackcurrants, cassis and plums, complemented by elegant notes of cedarwood, graphite and cigar box – characteristic of a classic Pauillac. Subtle hints of cinnamon, vanilla and dark chocolate emerge thanks to ageing in French oak barrels. On the palate the wine is powerful and structured, with firm but ripe tannins that give impressive length. The Cabernet Sauvignon gives the wine its robustness and deep fruit expression, while the Merlot adds softness and roundness. The finish is long and complex, with spicy and earthy nuances that keep developing in the glass.

Château Grand-Puy Ducasse, founded in the 18th century, is one of the lesser-known but highly respected Grand Cru Classé estates of Pauillac. Its vineyards cover 40 hectares spread over some of the best terroirs in the area, with deep gravel soils that are perfect for Cabernet Sauvignon. The wine is made with great precision and is aged for around 18 months in French oak barrels, a considerable proportion of them new. This contributes to the wine's refined structure and its capacity to age. The 2018 vintage is known as an exceptional year in Bordeaux, with a perfect balance between ripeness, freshness and structure. This wine has an ageing potential of 15 to 25 years and will continue to develop beautifully in the cellar.
