The Barolo Meriame from Paolo Manzone comes from the cru of the same name in Serralunga d'Alba, from south- to south-east-facing vineyards at around 350 metres altitude with a soil of clay and limestone. The oldest Nebbiolo vines are around seventy years old. In the glass the wine shows a ruby-red colour with a garnet rim. The nose is complex and layered, with dark cherries, dried fruit and rose petals, complemented by tar, coffee and a touch of vanilla.
After fermentation in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks, the wine matures for 24 months in oak: at least half in large Slavonian oak casks, the rest in French tonneaux. On the palate the Meriame is full and powerful, with the firm yet refined tannins so characteristic of Serralunga. Fruit, tannin and oak are beautifully balanced, carried by a fresh acidity. The finish is long, with notes of cherry, tar and herbs. A Barolo with great ageing potential.
Superb with brasato al Barolo, braised beef, game, risotto with white truffle and aged cheeses such as Castelmagno or Parmigiano Reggiano.
