Description:

Graham's Six Grapes is Graham's well-known Reserve Ruby Port and comes from the same quintas as the house's Vintage Ports. Its backbone is the four top grapes of the Douro: Touriga Franca, Touriga Nacional, Tinta Roriz and Tinta Barroca, complemented by Tinta Amarela, Tinta Cão and Souzão, among others. In the glass the port shows a deep, dark red colour. The nose is rich and seductive, with ripe plums and cherries, blackberry, cassis and a touch of liquorice.

The port matures for one to two years in large, used wooden vats in Vila Nova de Gaia. That is shorter than for many other Reserve Ports, so the youthful black fruit is preserved. On the palate it is complex and generously fruity, with good structure and a hint of tannin. The finish is long and lingering. The port is ready to drink as soon as it is bottled.

Food pairing:

Delicious after dinner with dark chocolate desserts or with mature and blue cheeses; serve lightly chilled at 12-16 °C.

Winery:

Graham's was founded in 1820 by the brothers William and John Graham and grew into one of the great names in port. Since 1970 the house has been owned by the Symington family, who had been involved with Graham's since 1882. The grapes come mainly from four of the house's own quintas in the Douro Valley, with Quinta dos Malvedos at the heart; this is also where the winery is located. The six-grapes symbol dates from the nineteenth century: after each harvest the casks were rated from one to six grapes, and six meant Vintage quality. In the early twentieth century Graham's began bottling wine from those casks under the name Six Grapes. The winemaker is Charles Symington.
