Kopke
Kopke
Kopke is the oldest Port house in the world and was founded in 1638 by the German merchant Cristiano Kopke. What began as a small trading business grew over the centuries into an icon of the Port world. Kopke specialises in Colheita Port, a style in which wines from a single harvest age for decades in oak casks, resulting in unrivalled depth and complexity.
The house is based in the Douro Valley, one of the oldest and most prestigious wine regions in the world. The steep terraces along the river, the unique microclimate and the blend of indigenous grape varieties all contribute to the exceptional quality of the wines. Kopke remains true to traditional production methods, in which craftsmanship and patience are essential.
Kopke's cellars hold an impressive collection of old Colheitas, including rare vintages that reflect the history and terroir of the Douro. The Kopke 1937 Colheita Port is a perfect example of their expertise and dedication: a wine that has outlived generations and is a timeless tribute to the art of Port making.
