Pommery

Pommery

Pommery is one of France's most iconic Champagne houses and is based in Reims, the historic heart of the Champagne region. The house's origins go back to 1858, when Alexandre Louis Pommery and Narcisse Greno founded the firm Pommery & Greno. After her husband's death, Madame Louise Pommery took charge and became one of the most influential women in the history of Champagne. Under her visionary leadership, Pommery grew into an internationally leading Champagne house.

Madame Pommery changed the world of Champagne forever by introducing the first commercially successful Brut Champagne in 1874. At a time when very sweet Champagnes were the norm, she created a dry, elegant style that proved especially popular in the English market. This pioneering vision laid the foundation for modern Champagne as it is appreciated around the world today. The signature Pommery style is still defined by freshness, finesse, elegance and a pure minerality.

The impressive Domaine Pommery is famous not only for its Champagnes but also for its remarkable architecture. The neo-Elizabethan château, with its characteristic red brick and towers, is one of the landmarks of Reims. Beneath the estate lie more than 18 kilometres of historic chalk cellars, hewn out to a depth of around 30 metres. These centuries-old crayères offer ideal conditions for the slow ageing of millions of bottles of Champagne and are among the most impressive wine cellars in Champagne.

Pommery owns vineyards spread across the finest terroirs of Champagne, including Grand Cru and Premier Cru plots. The house also owns the exclusive Clos Pompadour, a walled vineyard of around 25 hectares within its own estate in Reims. The grapes – mainly Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier – are carefully selected to create Champagnes known for their vibrant freshness, fine mousse and long, elegant finish.

The range includes Brut Royal, Apanage, Grand Apanage, Blanc de Blancs, Rosé Royal, the prestigious Cuvée Louise and the exclusive Les Clos Pompadour. All the cuvées reflect the house signature: precision, balance and a refined style that makes them excellent as an aperitif, yet also surprisingly good with fine food.

Beyond wine, Pommery is known for its close ties with art and culture. For many years the estate has hosted international exhibitions of contemporary art, with the monumental chalk cellars serving as a unique exhibition space. A visit to Pommery is therefore not only a journey of discovery through the world of Champagne, but also a special cultural experience in which heritage, architecture, art and wine come together in harmony.
